Troops to Trades: Military Veterans’ Professional Training Program

As a member of the Nexstar Network, Schumacher and Farley is proud to support the Nexstar Legacy Foundation’s Troops to Trades program.

TROOPS TO TRADES MISSION

We provide veterans, National Guard and Reserve members with career placement options,training grants and scholarships to help them find careers in the heating, air conditioning, plumbing and electrical residential service industries.

Careers in this industry are an excellent fit for veterans. These careers call for skills that veterans often developed during their military service, including:

• Problem solving
• Working independently while being accountable to the team
• Disciplined work habits
• Respectful communication
• Desire to help others

Our goal is to help veterans, National Guard and Reserve members find work right away, by providing connections to companies looking to hire apprentice or inexperienced employees and train them. To facilitate this we provide training grants that give veterans the skills to start work within weeks, along with scholarships for veterans currently enrolled in an accredited school program.

Our Goals

The Troops to Trades program is dedicated to accomplishing the following goals in 2015.

1. Provide scholarships and training grants to veterans
2. Provide ongoing assistance on recruiting and onboarding veterans to businesses
3. Help veterans connect with positions in the industry
